AUSTIN, TX — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Wednesday to determine eligibility of student-athletes and issue penalties for possible UIL rules violations.
Former Galena Park North Shore High School Assistant Football Coach Andrew Cameron was issued a three-year suspension from all UIL activities.
Galena Park North Shore High School Head Football Coach Willie Gaston was issued a two-game suspension to begin at the start of district play for the 2024 Football season for lack of proper oversight of his coaching staff. The committee determined that a coach on Gaston’s staff attempted to recruit student-athletes.
Round Rock Cedar Ridge High School Girls Soccer Coach Gustavo Lopez was issued one-year probation, public reprimand, and additional training for his ejection from a contest while on probation from a previous ejection.
Runge High School Boys Basketball Coach Aaron Escamilla was denied an appeal of an ejection and was issued a one-year probation, a public reprimand, and additional training.
A student-athlete from Austin Lake Travis High School was not granted varsity eligibility. After hearing testimony from all parties, it was determined that this student did change schools for athletic purposes.
