FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— Several coaches and schools were issued penalties as a result of decisions handed down by the State Executive Committee of the UIL on Thursday.

Southlake Carroll High School coach Larry Hughes’ appeal of an ejection from a contest was denied. The minimum penalty of a public reprimand and one-year probation will stand.

Denton Navo Middle School coach Denare Carter was given an extended probation through the 2008-09 school year for violation of off-season participation while already on probation. The original probationary period would have ended in January 2009.

San Antonio Hawkins High School was issued a public reprimand and two years probation for the participation of ineligible athletes in varsity competition. Additionally, the State Executive Committee sanctioned Coleman High School coach Kim Smith with a public reprimand and one-year probation for student athletes fighting with the opponent.

In other action, Rice High School was issued a public reprimand and one-year probation, while Rice High School coach David Curry was issued a public reprimand, one-year probation and suspension from one game for violation of off-season school team practice limitations.
