FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— Two out of four appeals brought before the State Executive Committee of the UIL were denied on Wednesday by unanimous decisions.

Students from La Joya Juarez-Lincoln High School and Wellington High School were ruled eligible for varsity athletics beginning immediately after the State Executive Committee overturned previous District Executive Committee decisions ruling the students ineligible for changing schools for athletic purposes.  After hearing testimony from all interested parties, the committee ruled that the students had not changed schools for athletic purposes and should regain their eligibility for varsity athletics.

The State Executive Committee denied the appeals of students from Temple High School and Longview Pine Tree High School who were appealing the rulings of their District Executive Committees making them ineligible for varsity athletics.  Both appeals were denied after the State Executive Committee ruled that the students did change schools for athletic purposes.

In other action, Pecos High School was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for one year for violation of steroid testing protocol.
