FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, TX – The State Executive Committee ruled on two cases of student-athlete eligibility and one case for exception to forfeiture of contest Thursday. Penalties were also handed out to basketball coaches from El Maton Tidehaven High School for violation of UIL rules.
The State Executive Committee denied an appeal by a Denton Guyer student-athlete ruled to have changed schools for athletic purposes. The student will remain ineligible for varsity athletics for the remainder of the school year.
A student-athlete from Houston Washington High School was ruled not to have changed schools for athletic purposes, however, due to other eligibility issues the student remains ineligible.
The State Executive Committee granted Houston Stratford High School’s request for exception to forfeiture of a contest. It was ruled that Houston Stratford will not have to forfeit any games for allowing an ineligible player to participate.
In other action, El Maton Tidehaven High School head basketball coach Clarence Jones and assistant coach Rush Claxton were given a public reprimand and a three-year probation for violation of holiday practice restrictions. Both coaches were also suspended from coaching any sport through the 2009-2010 school year.
