FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, TX—The fate of two high schools’ soccer seasons was decided by the State Executive Committee Tuesday after hearing appeals from the schools to reinstate previously forfeited games for allowing an ineligible student to participate.
The Amarillo High School boys soccer team will not have to forfeit games in which an ineligible student participated this season. After hearing testimony from the involved parties, the State Executive Committee granted the exception to the automatic forfeiture rule, thus allowing the team’s previous wins to be reinstated. Conversely, El Paso Bowie High School’s request for the exception to the automatic forfeiture rule was denied. The State Executive Committee ruled that the Bowie High School boys soccer team must forfeit all games in which the ineligible student participated, resulting in the forfeiture of all games from January 18 to March 4, 2005.
In other action, the State Executive Committee upheld a previous decision of the District 25-3A Executive Committee, ruling a Stafford High School student athlete ineligible for changing schools for athletic purposes. The student will become eligible for varsity athletics at the beginning of the 2005-06 school year.
