FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX—The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes and issued penalties to coaches and schools for violations of UIL rules on Monday.

Student-athletes from Wimberley High School, Eustace High School, Grapeland High School, Sinton High School and Aubrey High School were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility upholding the previous rulings of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athletes changed schools for athletic reasons.

In other action, a student-athlete from Klein Collins High School had their appeal to regain varsity eligibility granted after the committee ruled that the student-athlete did not change schools for athletic reasons.

Ralls High School was granted its request for exception to Section 27(b)(3), forfeiture of contests. It was determined that the school would not have to forfeit three district baseball games in which an ineligible student-athlete participated.

Whitharral High School coach Joshua Jourden was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for two years for violation of Section 1201(a)(3) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules.

Hamilton High School coach Matt Garrett was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for two years for violation of Section 1209(c) and (g), coaching restrictions. Additionally, the Hamiltion High School girls athletic program was placed on probation, which will end February 28, 2013.

Coach Darrell Jordan of Terrell High School was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for two years for violation of Sections 400(d) and 401(a)(1) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules.

The committee suspended Houston Furr High School coach Demarcus Peterson from coaching for three years for violation of Section 1205(b)(5) and (c), and requested that he appear before the committee prior to returning to coaching at a UIL member school.
