AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League issued penalties for violation of UIL rules on Wednesday.
Austin Harmony High School was suspended from volleyball and basketball competition for one year for failure to complete their 2012-13 volleyball and basketball seasons.
Dr. Harolyn Benson-Givens was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for one year for violation of UIL rules during a music competition while at Fort Worth Wyatt High School.
Everman High School music instructor Melodie Brookins was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for one year for violation of consecutive offenses of UIL music regulations in sight-reading.
Former Comfort High School coach Joseph Mann was issued a public reprimand, placed on two years probation and suspended from coaching for two years for improper interaction with an official. The committee requested that he appear before the committee prior to returning to coaching at a UIL member school.
The committee suspended Canton High School coach Howard Bell from coaching for two years for violation of Section 51(a)(9) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules. Bell was also issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for three years for the UIL rules violation.
The Dallas Conrad High School softball program was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for one year for using a volunteer coach during the 2011 and 2012 softball seasons.
