AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes and issued penalties to coaches for violation of UIL rules on Wednesday.
A student-athlete from Mission Veterans Memorial High School was denied their appeal for varsity eligibility upholding the previous ruling of the District 32-3A Executive Committee. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athlete changed schools for athletic reasons.
In other action, student-athletes from Claude High School and Houston Northbrook High School had their appeals to regain varsity eligibility granted after the committee ruled that the student-athletes did not change schools for athletic reasons.
Dallas Highland Park High School coach Michael Dearman was issued a public reprimand and placed on probation for one year for violation of Section 1208)j), ejection from a contest.
After hearing the appeal of a previous State Executive Committee decision for violations of Sections 51(a)(2) and 1208(j), the committee reduced the penalties issued to coach Joseph Mann to a public reprimand, one-year probation and one-year suspension.
