FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League issued penalties to coaches and schools for violations of UIL rules and handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes Thursday.

Somerville High School coach Sean Fuller was issued a public reprimand, one-year suspension, and three-year probation for improper interaction with an official. The Somerville High School girls basketball program was issued a two-year probation.

The committee handed down decisions on Edcouch-Elsa High School coaches Joe Garcia, Justin Solis and Brandon Solis for violations of rules regarding non-school participation. Garcia received a verbal reprimand; Justin Solis was issued a public reprimand, probation and three-year suspension, pending appearance before the State Executive Committee. Brandon Solis was issued a public reprimand.

Lake Worth High School coach James Rick was issued a public reprimand, a two-year suspension, and three-years probation for violating eligibility rules.

In other action, appeals from student-athletes representing Brownsville Veterans Memorial High School and Forsan High School were granted. An appeal for varsity eligibility was denied for an Alvin High School student-athlete, upholding the previous ruling of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athlete changed schools for athletic reasons.

Del Valle coach Rob Zachary was denied an appeal to overturn violation of section 1208 (j), ejection from a contest. Zachary was issued one-year probation and a public reprimand.
