AUSTIN— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Wednesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes and issue penalties for UIL rule violations.
Student-athletes from Copperas Cove and Plano West were granted appeals for varsity eligibility. After hearing testimony from all parties, it was determined that the students did not change schools for athletic purposes.
Student-athletes from Plano West, Gainesville and El Paso Bel Air were denied appeals for varsity eligibility, upholding the previous ruling of the district executive committees.
Waller-Schultz Junior High School coach Frederick Jackson’s appeal to overturn an ejection from a contest was denied. Jackson was issued a public reprimand, one-year probation, and will be required to complete additional training.
Quinlan Boles coach Melvin Cates was issued a public reprimand and two years probation for being ejected from a contest while on probation.
In other action, Lubbock Harmony Science Academy was suspended from all UIL extracurricular activities until it appears before the State Executive Committee for failure to complete the season.
