FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, Texas – The University Interscholastic League announced the six winners of the 2024-25 UIL Lone Star Cup presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year and recognizes six high schools (one in each of the six UIL conferences) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included in contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.
Austin Vandegrift claimed the Conference 6A Lone Star Cup title, bolstered by state titles in boys soccer, football and FIRST Robotics. The Vipers also finished as state runner-up in boys cross country, girls golf, and marching band, and reached the state semifinals in both girls soccer and volleyball. Additional accomplishments include third place in boys swimming and diving, a regional final in team tennis, deep playoff runs in boys and girls basketball, a baseball playoff berth, and a state spirit finals appearance. This marks Austin Vandegrift’s third Lone Star Cup titles and first since 2016.
After winning the inaugural Conference 3A Lone Star Cup title in 1998, Aledo secured its second title with the 2025 Conference 5A championship. The Bearcats claimed a state title in baseball and finished as state runner-up in one-act play, while also reaching the state semifinals in softball and volleyball. They placed third in state in boys track and field and girls cross country, fifth in marching band, and made deep playoff runs in football, girls basketball, and team tennis. Aledo also advanced to finals in state spirit and captured district titles in boys basketball, academics, and both boys and girls soccer.
Wimberley won its second Lone Star Cup trophy, and first since 1999-2000, clinching the Conference 4A title by just 0.5 points. The Texans took home state championships in congress and volleyball, and led all schools in spring tennis victories. They also finished as state runner-up in baseball, reached the state semifinals in football, team tennis, and softball, and advanced to the state finals in boys basketball and boys soccer. Additional feats include a state quarterfinal appearance in girls basketball and regional and district titles in academics.
Holliday repeated as the Conference 3A Lone Star Cup champion, earning its seventh overall title. The Eagles won state titles in girls cross country and boys track and field, advanced to the regional final in baseball, football, and volleyball, the regional semifinals in boys basketball, and the regional quarterfinals in softball. They also achieved third in both boys and girls track and field. In academics, Holliday excelled by winning a district title, a regional title and finishing third at the State Academic Meet. The Eagles also finished third in girls track and field, tallied a state appearance in girls basketball, and advanced to the state finals in marching band.
After finishing third last year, Shelbyville claimed the Conference 2A Lone Star Cup title, its first in school history. Key achievements include state championships in academics and congress, a state runner-up finish in military marching band, and state finals appearances in baseball, boys basketball, and softball. The Dragons also reached the state semifinals in football and the regional quarterfinals in volleyball, advanced to finals in state spirit, and earned district and regional titles in academics.
Building on last year’s school-best runner-up finish, Jayton captured its first Lone Star Cup trophy with the Conference 1A title. The Jaybirds won state titles in boys basketball and football, placed fifth in boys cross country, and advanced to the state semifinals in girls basketball. They also captured regional and district academics titles, advanced to the state finals in spirit and FIRST Robotics, and made an appearance the baseball playoffs.
