Change in High School Spelling and Vocabulary Contest
Beginning the 2014-15 school year, the UIL Spelling and Vocabulary contest will have a few changes.
During Part II and III, the pronouncer will define all words, not just the ones from outside of the list. The new instructions to the pronouncer will read:
Up to 20 percent of the words on the tests are "outside words”, words not included in this year's UIL Word Power, and they are noted on the Pronouncer's Copy with an asterisk. Please define not only the outside words, but also all words on the Pronouncer’s List. The part of speech has been provided for each word to assist you, if necessary, in formulating illustrative sentences.
We are also having a change in test writers this year. Linda Berrey will be writing all parts of the test and Marcia Hilsabeck will be serving as the proofreader. We do not anticipate significant changes, but there are always a few differences when we have a change in writers of any test.
